What is a Visual Journal you ask?
It's not a diary.
It's not a scrapbook.
It's not a school yearbook.
A Visual Journal is:
a place to write notes
a place to remember fun moments
a place to be sad
a place to draw a picture
a place to doodle and be silly-
a place to write poetry or a song
a place to try out something new
a place to practice something familiar
a place where you can be you -- creatively of course.

The Calendar Pages

Most Calenders are a bit boring. They have squares with dates and we use them to try and remember all the things we have to do.
Our Visual Journal Calendar pages are different. first of all the boxes don't have to be just square boxes. Pick a shape, pick a size, just make sure there is enough room to make notes.
The second big difference is how we keep track of events. Most calendars are for planning. Our calendar is for remembering. While our pages should all be made at the beginning of the term, we have to be patient about filling in events. Events can only be added to your calendar after they happen. It may seem a little odd at first but eventually you will get the hang of capturing of your most important events.
Some events kids like to add:
football, basketball, soccer games etc.
school dances and parties
meeting new friends
going to a movie or concert
There's all sorts of things that happen to us everyday. Write them down and you'll be amazed at how many memories your calendar will bring back.

The Article Pages
![Picture](/uploads/5/7/0/7/5707808/6499972.jpg)
Journals, visual or otherwise, have writing in them. Each class will create 3 pages of stories first told in words and then illustrated in pictures. If you like to draw that's an option. Some students may choose to collage. Either way it's fine --just tell the story.
The Topics vary from your opinion of current events to fantasy stories with superheroes and magical creatures.
Each class creates a minimum of 3 Article Pages
